Student applying for UCAS on his laptop at home

The UCAS deadline for applications is only two weeks after the New Year.

Here are the practical reasons why getting your application in before Christmas can make a real difference

Many students wonder ‘Is it better to submit my UCAS application early?’ - and the short answer is yes.

If you’re applying for an undergraduate course starting in 2026, the deadline for submitting your UCAS application is 14 January at 6pm GMT. All applications received by this date get equal consideration, but submitting before Christmas still offers key advantages.

1. Competitive courses can fill up

While all applications before the January deadline receive equal consideration, popular courses can become much more competitive. Applying early gives you the best chance of securing a place on your chosen course.

2. Get better support from teachers and advisers

Teachers, career advisers, and tutors at your school or college get very busy in January. Submitting early means you’re more likely to get quick, high-quality feedback - and avoid delays with references.
